Columns challenges players to arrange falling vertical stacks of colorful jewels into horizontal, vertical or diagonal lines of three or more to clear them. Simple controls hide deep timing and spatial puzzles: planning chains, burying pieces to trigger cascading combos, and reacting to rising speed make later rounds frantic. The SNES version captures arcade-classic presentation with bright palettes, chiptune jingles and a split-screen two-player tussle that turns a solitary puzzler into a competitive slugfest.
