Defender pits you in control of a lone spaceship hurtling along a continuously scrolling planetary surface, tasked with defending fleeing humanoids from relentless alien Landers, Bombers and Mutants. The fast-paced shooter combines precision flying, radar awareness and lightning reflexes: you must intercept attackers, reclaim captured humans, and use hyperspace and smart bombs to survive escalating waves. Its brutal difficulty and breakneck tempo reward pattern learning and split-second decisions, making each play session a tense, nostalgic test of skill. Arcade cabinets' roar and frantic controls defined a generation of challenging shooters.
