Description

NHL Breakaway 98 delivers arcade-style ice hockey action on the Nintendo 64, emphasizing fast-paced skating, heavy checks, and quick shots. Players choose from a roster of teams and jump into solo season play or head-to-head local matches, where tight controls and aggressive boards play create unpredictable momentum swings. The gameplay blends accessible puck handling with responsive passing, timing-based shooting, and power plays that reward positioning and split-second decisions. Blocky polygons, rousing commentary, and energetic sound design evoke late‑90s console nostalgia, making it a casual, competitive pick‑up‑and‑play sports experience for friends gathered around the TV.

🕹️Recommended browsers:

  • Safari (macOS / iOS): Good support for Bluetooth controllers.
  • Firefox: Not recommended for gamepad play due to inconsistent controller mapping and limited Gamepad, Sound API behavior.

  • PC (Windows / macOS): Connect your controller → start the game → SettingsControls → map buttons.
  • Android: Pair via Bluetooth or USB-OTG → launch the game → SettingsControls.

💾 Save & Load Guide

Don't lose your progress! You have two ways to manage your game states:

  • Auto-Save (Browser Storage): By default, your progress is automatically saved to your browser's local storage. You can pick up right where you left off the next time you visit, provided you do not clear your browser cache.
  • Manual Save/Load (Export to File): For maximum safety and playing across different devices, you can export your save data:
    1. Open the Settings Menu in the emulator.
    2. Select "Save State" to download your progress as a file (usually .txt or .state) to your device.
    3. To resume, simply use "Load State" and select that file to continue playing.

⚠️ Note: We highly recommend exporting your save file frequently to avoid losing data due to browser updates or accidental cache clearing.
